Make a difference in your community
Sonja Chevere demonstrated for me the power in taking action. As Sonja was taking her six year old daughter to school one day, her little girl asked, “Momma, why is that girl showing her backside? That’s a private part that she shouldn’t be showing to anyone.” Sonja looked up, and across from her daughter’s school, very near a high school, was the following Joe’s Jeans billboard.
Sonja was livid! She emailed the jeans company and expressed her concerns; she rallied friends, family, and the community through blog posts and emails to write to the company; and she even prepared a letter for her County Council person. A few days later the Joe’s Jeans billboard was down. We aren’t sure if they heard the protest, however, the end result was accomplished.

Great post, AA. I know that one person can make a difference. One person can become a group of people that becomes a crowd. We just have to speak up. Many times it just takes one person stepping up to get the ball rolling.
Laura Jo, Your comment is exactly why I had to share Sonja’s story. You are so right that it only takes one to get the ball rolling; yet, that can be so difficult. We want the results, but sometimes not the discomfort that may come along with standing out, and standing out first!
